Margin Calculator
Margin and markup get mixed up constantly, and the mistake is expensive: a 50% markup is only a 33% margin. This shows both from the same two numbers, and works backwards to the price you'd need for a target margin.

Questions
What's the difference between margin and markup?
Margin is profit divided by the selling price; markup is profit divided by the cost. Buy at $10, sell at $15: 50% markup, 33% margin.
Which one do retailers use?
Margin, almost always — it's the share of revenue you keep. Suppliers tend to quote markup, which is why the two get confused.
Does this include overheads?
No, it's gross margin on one unit. Rent and wages come out of that margin — use the break-even calculator for the whole picture.
